Cypress, Calif. – Cypress made it a busy day for the Golden West goalie scoring seven goals and shutting out the Rustlers for the 7-0 conference win. The seven goal blowout did not even reflect the Charger opportunities to score. In the second half, sophomore defender Denise Oates drove up the sideline from her defender position to score an unassisted goal, her first of her collegiate career.

The Chargers were expected to beat up on the Rustlers who had only scored one goal thus far this season. The task appeared more difficult than expected as the Chargers were blanked the first 37 minutes of the game after several opportunities and near misses. The seal finally broke when sophomore forward Yvonne Vasquez scored in the 37th minute. Cypress wasted no time as sophomore midfielder Tiffany Craig added another just a minute later from freshman Briana Covarrubias giving Cypress the 2-0 lead at half.

Cypress pressed on in the second half when Covarrubias added a goal herself from sophomore defender Cassie McKay. It was freshman midfielder’s Dani Castro’s turn as Castro scored two straight goals with an assist from Vasquez giving Cypress the commanding 5-0 lead. Freshman defender Kristen Mosier added the sixth goal from Amanda Martinez. Oates capped off the day with an unassisted goal up the left sideline for the seventh and final goal.

The Chargers improve their record to 8-0 and 2-0 in conference. Cypress plays again Tuesday and travels to Santa Ana to face the Dons. Santa Ana is 1-4-3 and coming off of a 0-5 loss to Orange CoastThe teams face off Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Santa Ana.
