Cypress, Calif. – Cypress looked like they were desperately trying to score the game winning or tying goal at the end of the game Tuesday, but when the goal was finally scored, it just added an insurance goal giving Cypress the 2-0 win. Saddleback looked like they would hold the Chargers to their lowest win margin this season until the 89th minute when sophomore midfielder Tiffany Craig scored her second goal of the game for the 2-0 win.
The Chargers looked on pace as Craig scored the first goal within the first two minutes from freshman midfielder Amanda Martinez. Cypress slowed down the rest of the half not able to convert. The second half looked more lively for the Chargers as they aggressively fought just a 1-0 lead taking several shots that narrowly floated over the goal or hit the post. The efforts finally paid off when sophomore defender Cassie McKay floated one to Craig who headed in the second goal just a minute before time expired. Freshman goalie Kassandra Imbrogno picked up her conference leading eighth shutout.
The Chargers travel to Riverside Friday for their fifth conference match-up. The Tigers are 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference coming off of a 3-2 loss to Santa Ana. The teams face off Friday at Riverside at 3:00 pm.
