Two Charger Hat Tricks Lead to 10-0 Rout of Irvine Valley

Irvine, Calif. – Cypress headed to Irvine Valley Friday and bullied the hosting Lasers for ten goals in a shut out win. This was Cypress’s last warm-up before facing the number one ranked team in the nation Santiago Canyon. Sophomore midfielder and Charger point leader Brittney Elder was one of two Chargers to notch a hat trick in the game. Freshman midfielder Diana Gallegos was the other Charger with a hat trick scoring her sixth, seventh, and eighth career goal.

Elder and Gallegos’s hat tricks were boosted by four other Cypress goals. Jessie Banos, Dani Castro, Amanda Martinez, and Yvonne Vasquez picked up the other four goals to make it an even 10 points. Banos also added two assists to her goal. Brianna Covarrubias and Cassie McKay also added two assists a piece. Kelsey Chavarria, Tiffany Craig, and Martinez all contributed an assist a piece. Freshman keeper Kassandra Imbrogno picked up yet another shutout win.

Cypress has the weekend to rest before facing Santiago Canyon on Tuesday. Santiago Canyon is in first place in conference, is ranked first in the nation, and is coming off of an 8-0 win over Santa Ana. The last time these two rivals met, the teams tied at one. Cypress hopes to come out on top Tuesday at Cypress at 3:00 pm.
