First Half Scoring Enough For Charger Home Win

Cypress scores three first half goals to take care of the Coyotes.

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers hosted their first game of the 2007 season Tuesday hosting the Coyotes of Cuyamaca. The Cypress offense let showed off in the first half with three goals for the eventual 4-1 win. Freshman midfielder Jackiee Roman had the honors of scoring the first home goal of the year with a header off of a corner kick for the goal in the ninth minute.

Freshman forward Natalie Farah assisted in Roman’s goal for her first of two assists on the day and already her fourth assist of the year. Sophomore midfielder Karina Gutierrez scored the second goal just four minutes later with an assist from sophomore midfielder Dani Castro. Sophomore midfielder Nydia Hurtado got into the action with the third goal of the half assisted by freshman defender Karla Garcia. The Cuyamaca defense buckled down some in the second half allowing just one goal in the 64th minute from freshman Jessie McMaster with an assist from Farah. The Charger defense was uncharacteristically challenged in the second half allowing a goal through in the 79th minute. Sophomore keeper Kassandra Imbrogno led the Charger defense with six saves.

Cypress heads right back out on the road heading north to Cabrillo Friday. Cabrillo is 0-3 on the season thus far coming off of a 1-3 loss to American River. The two will face off at Cabrillo at 6:00 pm Friday.
