Santa Ana, Calif. – The Cypress defense allowed Santa Ana just one shot on goal but that shot was enough to steal the win away and deal Cypress another tie. The Chargers converted on just one opportunity Tuesday afternoon scoring first but faltering late finishing the game at a 1-1 tie. Freshman forward Natalie Farah scored Cypress’s lone goal, her third goal this season.
The Chargers dominated the ball as usual taking 19 shots and forcing 11 Santa Ana goalie saves. Despite all these opportunities, Farah’s ball was the only one to reach the net with an assist from freshman forward Catrina Flores in the 31st minute. Cypress slipped in the second half allowing Santa Ana their one shot that sailed over sophomore goalie Kassandra Imbrogno’s head tying the game in the 73rd minute sending Cypress home with a disappointing tie.
Cypress slips to 5-0-3 overall and 2-0-1 in conference. They have two days off to prepare for the biggest game yet of the 2007 season as they host a rematch of the 2006 state championship match against perennial rivals Santiago Canyon. The Hawks are 8-0 coming off of a 3-0 win over Orange Coast. They have outscored opponents 31-3 thus far this season. The face off between rivals happens Friday at 3:00 pm at Cypress.
