Chargers Shut Out in Rivalry Game

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress was in the rare position of underdog Friday afternoon as they hosted their rivals, the number one ranked Hawks of Santiago Canyon in a rematch of the 2006 State Championship game. The Chargers were outmatched as they were unable to score and allowed two goals losing 2-0. Sophomore keeper Kassandra Imbrogno was put to the test making seven saves on the day.

The early minutes of each half proved to be lethal for the Chargers. The Hawks wasted no time scoring in the fifth minute of the game. From there, the teams went back and forth with close calls on both ends. The start of the second half netted similar results as Santiago Canyon’s same player scored their second goal just two minutes into the half. Close calls on both ends continued the rest of the game but Cypress could not get one to go in suffering the shut out loss.

The Chargers fall to 2-1-1 in conference and 5-1-3 overall. Cypress takes a break from conference play and will use their bye to take on San Bernardino Valley on Tuesday. The Wolverines are 6-2 coming off of a 2-0 loss to San Diego Mesa. The two will meet up at Cypress on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
