Cypress Shuts out Irvine Valley

Irvine, Calif. – The Chargers commenced Orange Empire Conference play Friday after a bye on Tuesday going on the road to face Irvine Valley. After a slow start, Cypress exploded for three goals in the 3-0 shutout win. Freshman forward Catrina Flores followed up her three assist performance with a goal against the Lasers. Sophomore midfielder Dani Castro added the other two goals for her third multi-goal game.

Cypress was held scoreless the first forty minutes unable to put one in. In the 42nd minute, Castro scored her first goal with a diagonal pass from sophomore midfielder Karina Gutierrez giving Cypress the lead 1-0. After the half, Flores scored her goal in the 52nd minute with an assist from freshman defender April Morris. Castro finished it off with a goal in the 67th minute with an assist from freshman midfielder Yadira Rangel. Sophomore goalie Kassandra Imbrogno made one save earning the shutout.

Cypress improves to 7-1-3 and 4-1-1 overall in conference holding second place. They will have the weekend off and will return to conference play Tuesday against Riverside. Riverside is 1-6-1 and 1-3-2 in conference coming off of a 3-0 loss to Santiago Canyon. The two meet up at Cypress on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
