Cypress Completes the Sweep of Golden West

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers began the second half of Orange Empire Conference play facing Golden West for the second time this season. Cypress halved their previous 6-0 win margin with a 3-0 win this time around. Sophomore midfielder Nydia Hurtado scored Cypress’s first goal of the game to start Cypress out on the right foot.

Cypress had another quick start when freshman forward Catrina Flores sent a ball to Hurtado to score in the fifth minute. The rest of the first half progressed slowly for Cypress unable to score any more in the half. The Chargers picked up the pace a bit in the second as freshman forward Natalie Farah rocketed a shot from thirty yards out for Cypress’s second goal at the 53rd minute. Another long goal came in the 82nd minute as Flores shot one off the far post from outside the box for Cypress’s third and final goal. Sophomore keeper Kassandra Imbrogno made three saves on the way to another shutout.

Cypress improves to 11-1-3 overall and 7-1-1 in conference. They return to play on Tuesday heading to Saddleback. The last time they faced off, Cypress narrowly won 1-0. Saddleback is 4-4-1 in conference coming off of a 2-0 loss to Orange Coast. The teams will face off again Tuesday at Saddleback at 3:00 pm.
