First Half Splurge Takes out the Dons

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress had a score to settle after suffering an unexpected tie against Santa Ana earlier this season. The Chargers settled their score and more with an explosive first half scoring all five goals in the first 45 minutes for the eventual 5-0 win. Sophomore midfielder Dani Castro paced Cypress with a goal and an assist.

The Chargers kicked it off with a goal in the eighth minute from freshman defender Samantha Jones on a free kick to take the early lead. Ten minutes later freshman forward Natalie Farah knocked one in with an assist from Jones. Just six minutes after the second goal, Farah added her second goal of the game with Castro’s assist. After another six minute break, Castro took her turn to score while sophomore midfielder Amanda Martinez contributed the assist. Cypress took a longer break for goal number five waiting for the 43rd minute with a goal from freshman midfielder Karla Garcia with another assist from Martinez. Freshman Tracy Pabigian took her first shot at goalie playing the first 45 minutes making one save. Veteran sophomore keeper Kassandra Imbrogno took over in the second half making one save of her own.

Cypress improves to 13-1-3 and 9-1-1 in conference. They take the weekend off before a rematch with rival and first place Santiago Canyon. The last time they met, the Hawks won 2-0. The Chargers hope to even the score on Tuesday at Santiago Canyon at 6:30 pm.
