Cypress, Calif. – Freshman forward Catrina Flores leads the team in assists, but today she decided to take the lead role scoring three goals in the game to propel Cypress to a win. Flores’s goals paced Cypress to the 5-0 win, the second shutout win over Irvine Valley this season.

Flores kicked things off in the second minute of the game when she took a pass from sophomore midfielder Karina Gutierrez and launched it towards the right post for the first goal of the game. Just three minutes later, Flores added another taking a cross-field pass from sophomore midfielder Dani Castro to score again. Cypress took a breather and waited until the twentieth when freshman midfielder Megan Boland passed to sophomore defender Amanda Martinez who dribbled through a few defenders and scored for the 3-0 lead at halftime.

Cypress started quickly in the second half as well as Boland notched another assist when freshman midfielder April Morris headed a ball in for Cypress’s fourth goal. Flores topped it off and completed her hat trick in the 61st minute taking a pass from Morris and utilized some fancy footwork to bypass defenders and score the Chargers’ fifth goal. Freshman Tracy Pabigian and sophomore Kassandra Imbrogno split time in the goal and made a combined three saves.

The Chargers improve to 14-2-3 and 10-2-1 in conference. They will spend the rest of the week preparing for a rematch with Riverside on Friday. The last time Cypress faced Riverside, the Chargers won 2-0. This time the teams will face off at Riverside on Friday at 3:00 pm.
