Chargers Get a Scare in Final Regular Season Match

Fullerton, Calif. – With playoff seeding implications on the line as the season ended, Cypress could not afford to slip up. The Chargers put themselves in a tough position against Fullerton falling behind 2-0 to start the game before waking up and pulling off the narrow win and a sigh of relief 4-3. Freshman forward Catrina Flores played hero scoring two goals including the winning one while adding an assist to lead the Chargers.
The last time Cypress faced Fullerton, the Chargers ran away with a 6-1 win. This time, the Hornets stung first putting two goals on the board taking a shocking 2-0 lead early in the match. Cypress did not fold as sophomore midfielder Dani Castro scored in the 20th minute with an assist from Flores to cut the lead in half. Fifteen minutes later, Flores evened the score at two with a goal this time assisted by Castro. Two minutes later, Fullerton snatched the lead back with a goal in the 37th minute 3-2. Luckily, Cypress was able to even the score again three minutes later with a goal from freshman forward Natalie Farah with an assist from Castro again for the 3-3 halftime score.
The second half went back and forth with neither team able to score. As the clock was winding down, Flores knocked one in with an assist from freshman defender Samantha Jones for the winning goal in the 78th minute. Sophomore keeper Kassandra Imbrogno finished the day with one save.
Cypress improves to 17-2-3 overall and 13-2-1 in conference in second place. Cypress moves on the upcoming playoffs next Saturday. The Chargers will head on the road to face higher seeded L.A. Pierce. L.A. Pierce is 17-1-5 coming off of a 3-0 shutout of Canyons. The two will meet up with only one surviving on Saturday at L.A. Pierce at 2:00 pm.
