Chargers Shocked in Second Round Elimination

Cypress College Women's Soccer Cypress finishes 18-3-3.
This is first time since 1994 that Cypress has not advanced on to the State Semifinals.

November 20, 2007

San Diego, Calif. – A battered and bruised Charger squad travelled south to San Diego Mesa to face the third seeded Olympians for the right to move on to the regional finals. Cypress battled to a 0-0 tie and reached a dramatic penalty kick finale losing the face off 4-3 to mark the first time since 1994 that the Chargers did not move on past the second round.

Despite being seeded lower than Mesa, Cypress never expected to lose in the early round. The Chargers dominated throughout most of the game but faced the same problem they have all year, an inability to convert quality shots into goals. This is just the third time in program history that Cypress has not reached at least the State Semifinals.

Cypress finishes their season 18-3-3. As a testament to the program’s historic success, an 18-3-3 record is the most losses since 1995. Sophomore keeper Kassandra Imbrogno finishes her career third in the career record book with 138 saves and third in shutouts with 30. Sophomore midfielder Dani Castro finishes as this season’s points leader with 14 goals and 11 assists for 39 season points.
