Cypress Kicks off 2008 With a Shutout Win

San Diego, Calif. – The Chargers started their 2008 season Friday in the first of a long string of road games facing Miramar. Cypress started slow but eventually overpowered Miramar with two goals in the second half for the 2-0 win. Freshman midfielder Casey Kiehl made her collegiate debut with an assist and a goal.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore defender Samantha Jones took a corner kick from Kiehl to head in Cypress’s first goal of the season to take the lead in the 48th minute. Twelve minutes later, Kiehl took it upon herself to dribble through several Miramar defenders for a solo goal. Freshman keeper Whitney Joslin made her collegiate debut for Cypress with the shutout making three saves.

Cypress starts their season with a 1-0 record and has several days to prepare to head to Mt. Sac to face the 0-0-1 Mounties. The two will face off at 6:00 pm on Wednesday at Mt. Sac.
