Chargers Notch a Blowout

Irvine, Calif. – Cypress traveled to Irvine Valley Friday after a bye on Tuesday and proved they were ready to get back in action. The Chargers got it going early and often in a 6-0 win over the Lasers. Sophomore midfielder Jackiee Roman led Cypress with two goals in the day.
The Chargers got the action going early with a goal in the eighth minute by freshman midfielder Nicole Weil with an assist from sophomore forward Catrina Flores. Roman then scored her first goal of the day in the 24th minute with an assist from freshman midfielder Casey Kiehl. Roman then scored her second goal just before the end of the half with an assist from freshman Ariana Olague for the 3-0 halftime advantage
The second half proved to be more of the same. Flores added a goal to the assist she already produced. Flores’s goal was assisted by freshman forward Olivia Green. Freshman midfielder Nicole Weil then took over with two straight goals within two minutes with assists from sophomore defender Samantha Bock and freshman midfielder Mayra Araiza. Three goalies, freshmen Whitney Joslin, Ashley Llanes, and Starr Gonzales, split the shutout for Cypress. Joslin and Llanes made two saves a piece and Gonzales added one.
Cypress improves to 7-0-2 and 3-0 in conference. They have the weekend off before heading off to Fullerton to face the Hornets. The Hornets are 4-3-2 and 1-2-1 in conference coming off of a 2-1 win over Saddleback. The two will meet up for the first time this season Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Fullerton.
