Cypress Shuts Out Saddleback

Mission Viejo, Calif. – Cypress traveled to Mission Viejo Friday to take on the Gauchos in an attempt to gain ground in the Orange Empire Conference standings. With the two number one ranked teams playing each other, Cypress took advantage of the opening with a 4-0 shutout of Saddleback. Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Ledezma scored her first collegiate goal.
The Chargers made a statement with the blowout win. Freshman midfielder Casey Kiehl continued her dominance with a goal and an assist. Freshman forward Kari Wathen also contributed her first collegiate goal. Sophomore midfielder Jackiee Roman added one as well. Freshman goalie Whitney Joslin played a half while freshmen Starr Gonzales and Ashley Llanes split the second half for the combined shutout.
Cypress improves to 9-1-3 and 5-1-1 in conference for a second place tie with Riverside who lost to Santiago Canyon on Friday. The Chargers have the weekend to prepare for their biggest game of the season so far against first place Santiago Canyon. SCC is in first place with a 6-0-1 record. The two meet up for the first time this season Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
