Penalty Kicks End Charger Season

Cypress, Calif. – For the second season in a row, the Chargers were stopped in the second round of playoffs via penalty kicks. Cypress took on Santiago Canyon for the third time this season and ended regulation and overtime in a 1-1 tie. The game came down to penalty kicks and Cypress came up short losing 4-1.
Cypress started the scoring as freshman midfielder Casey Kiehl served a ball to freshman forward Ariana Olague who shot the ball from outside the penalty box for the 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived as just sixteen minutes later, the Hawks headed a ball in for the 1-1 tie. The teams battled through the second half as Cypress was able to keep the aggressive Hawk offense scoreless.
Cypress got aggressive in the two fifteen minute overtimes but could not put one past the Hawk keeper. The Hawks were flawless in penalty kicks making all four as Kiehl scored one for Cypress. After missing two straight, Cypress could not catch up ending their season. Freshman keeper Whitney Joslin made six saves on the day and finished the season with 18.33 shutouts and 94 saves.
The Chargers finish their season 18-1-5.
