The Chargers Open the 2009 Season with a Narrow Win

San Diego, Calif. – Cypress kicked off their 2009 season Friday afternoon travelling to Miramar. The Chargers started strong but struggled in the second half on the way to a 2-1 win. Freshman midfielder Lindsey Ault scored her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute for the Chargers in what would be the deciding goal.
The Chargers earned a penalty kick in the first half with freshman forward Vanessa Carona converting in the 31st minute. Ault scored in the second half with an assist from sophomore midfielder Nicole Weil. Miramar broke the shutout with a last minute goal as Cypress took the win by one goal. Freshman goalie Chelsea Broghamer made four saves on the day.
Cypress starts the season 1-0 and has the long weekend off before their home opener on Tuesday at 3:00 pm against Chaffey.
