Cypress Pulls Through, Wins Home Opener

Cypress, Calif. - The women of Cypress defended their home field against Chaffey College Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers managed to hold the Panthers scoreless, pulling off a 2-0 victory. Freshmen goalie Chelsea Broghamer made two saves for the day completing her first collegiate shutout.

After controlling the ball in the first half, the Chargers lost some momentum in the second half, testing the Panthers mobility. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Weil scored in the 43rd minute from sophomore midfielder Sasha Key’s assist, breaking the Chargers’ silence. Cypress held the Panthers to another scoreless half while sophomore midfielder Casey Kiehl nailed a shot scoring in the 71st minute with help from freshmen midfielder Jessica Murphy with the assist.

Cypress (2-0) has a day off before traveling to DeAnza on Thursday. The Chargers will face the 2008 Coast Conference Champions at 3:30 p.m. on the road.
