Saratoga, Calif. - Cypress defeated West Valley College 5-1, ending their perfect non-conference play. The Chargers controlled the ball most of the game, shooting 19 shots on goal and only allowing three shots on goal. The last matchup against these two teams came last year with another dominating performance leaving the Vikings scoreless, wining 4-0 on the road. Sophomore forward Juliane Adams came up big with two goals.
Freshman forward Vanesa Corona scored her third goal this season off of sophomore midfielder Alana Wohlers. Right before the half Adams managed to launch one in from a key pass by freshman defender ChristiAna Lang. The Vikings answered back, scoring in the 49th minute. Sophomore midfielder Amber Lopez scored with an assist from sophomore midfielder Nicole Weil, followed by Adam’s second goal off of Lopez. The Chargers finished off scoring one last goal from freshman forward Michelle Hampton with an assist from sophomore forward Kari Wathen. Freshmen goalie Chelsea Broghamer played for 83 minutes allowing one goal with two saves. Sophomore goalie Starr Gonzales finished off allowing zero goals.
The Chargers (5-0) have plenty of time to prepare for their first conference game at home against Saddleback College on Friday. The two face off at 3:00 p.m. at Cypress.
