Cypress Dominates Conference Opener

Cypress, Calif. - After a bye in the first round, Cypress began conference play Friday hosting the Gauchos of Saddleback. The Chargers controlled the ball and the game with a 3-0 shutout. Sophomore midfielder Alana Wohlers scored her first goal for Cypress this season.

Cypress wasted no time taking just ten minutes to score their first goal. Freshman forward Nayeli Meza took a pass from freshman forward Angie Silva to score. Meza’s goal was followed by the goal by Wohlers in the 28th minute with an assist by sophomore forward Juliane Adams. After a 2-0 half, Cypress scored in the 51st minute with a goal by sophomore forward Kari Wathen assisted by Meza. Freshman keeper Chelsea Broghamer made four saves for the shutout.

The Chargers (6-0, 1-0) continue conference action Tuesday taking on Orange Coast at home at 3:00 pm. Orange. Cypress is in for a tough match as the Pirates are 5-1 and 1-1 in conference coming off of their first loss of the season Friday to Santiago Canyon 2-1.
