The Chargers Prove Their Dominance with a 4-0 Shutout

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress hosted what should have been their first major challenge in conference Tuesday. Orange Coast won five straight games before falling to perennial powerhouse and Cypress rival Santiago Canyon by just one goal. The Chargers took on the Pirates next and drove in four goals without allowing one for the 4-0 win. Freshman midfielder Jessica Murphy paced Cypress all game netting an assist on the day.

Both teams got off to a slow start with Cypress unable to convert for a goal until the 37th minute. Freshman midfielder Lindsey Ault broke the scoreless tie off a pass from freshman forward Angie Silva. After a 1-0 halftime, Cypress came out quick as sophomore midfielder Casey Kiehl scored her third goal off the season off a pass from sophomore forward Juliane Adams. The goals kept pouring in as Murphy assisted on a goal from freshman forward Vanessa Corona. The action ended in the 89th minute as sophomore forward Starr Gonzales scored her first collegiate goal taking a long pass from sophomore defender Ariana Olague. Freshman keeper Chelsea Broghamer earned another shutout making four saves.

Cypress (7-0, 2-0) has a couple days off before heading to Golden West to take on the Rustlers in a night game at 6:00 pm Friday. Golden West is 0-3 in conference coming off of a 2-1 loss to Irvine Valley.
