Charger Surge Comes Too Late

Orange, Calif. – Orange, Calif. – The Chargers suffered their second loss in a row on Friday. Cypress was aiming to be the first this season to defeat their rival, Santiago Canyon, but came up just short losing 3-2. Freshmen Forward Vanessa Corona led Cypress scoring both goals.
Cypress was outplayed in the first half, falling short in total offense and shots. The Chargers fell behind early after the Hawks scored early in the 18th and 36th minutes. Corona avoided the first half shutout scoring before the half. Struggling to find their rhythm, the Chargers allowed another goal falling behind by two in the second half. Gaining momentum, Corona scored again in the 70th minute giving the Hawks no room to breathe. A last minute surge from the Chargers fell short and the Hawks came out victorious. Freshmen goalkeeper Chelsea Broghammer was in goal making two saves.
Cypress (9-2-1, 4-2-1) comes back home to face Fullerton next. The match starts at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Cypress.
