Wohlers Scores Four in Rout of Saddleback

Mission Viejo, Calif. – Back to their winning ways, the Chargers controlled the ball throughout their game against Saddleback. When the whistle blew, Cypress finished with the 6-0 shutout win. Sophomore midfielder Alana Wohlers joined seven other Chargers in the record book scoring four goals in the game, a feat that had not been accomplished in five years.

The Chargers came out strong scoring three goals in the first half with all three coming from Wohlers. Assists came from freshman midfielders Lindsey Ault and Angie Silva and freshman defender Megan Hughes.

The second half opened up with a goal from sophomore midfielder Casey Kiehl assisted by Silva. Wohlers finished up her scoring after that with her fourth goal assisted by Kiehl. Sophomore midfielder Amber Lopez finished off the game with a goal and the assist by freshman forward Michelle Hampton.

Cypress shutdown Saddleback’s offense, blanking them from any shots on goal. Freshman Chelsea Broghamer and sophomore Starr Gonzales combined efforts in goal for the shutout.

Cypress (11-2-1, 6-2-1) stays on the road this week traveling to face Orange Coast on Friday. The Chargers defeated the Pirates 4-0 earlier this season. The match starts at 3:00 pm in Costa Mesa.
