Irvine, Calif. – The Charger offense made a stand against the Lasers challenging their defense most of the game to win 5-0. The two team’s last meeting ended in a forfeit by Irvine Valley from lack of players. Due to injuries, Irvine Valley played the last 15 minutes with only 10 players. Freshman midfielder Jessica Murphy picked up three assists.

Cypress controlled the ball most of the game. The first three goals came on headers off crosses from the right wing. Freshmen forward Vanessa Corona knocked one in off of Murphy’s pass in the 31st minute. Murphy tallied two more assists when sophomore midfielder Casey Kiehl and sophomore midfielder Alana Wohlers both scored, meeting Murphy on the right wing. Wohlers scored again two minutes later from sophomore midfielder Nicole Weil, followed by a goal by Corona from Kiehl. Freshman keeper Chelsea Broghamer and sophomore Starr Gonzales split the shutout.

Cypress (14-2-1, 9-2-1) faces Riverside on Tuesday at home. Riverside gave the Chargers their only tie of the season earlier this year. The match starts at 3:00 pm at Cypress.
