Cypress Turns it On in the Second Half to Power to the Second Round

Cypress, Calif. – Playoffs began statewide Saturday as 32 teams battled for 16 spots in the second round. Cypress hosted conference foes Orange Coast Saturday afternoon and scored three second half goals for the 3-0 win and a pass to the second round. Sophomore midfielder Ariana Olague led Cypress scoring a goal and an assist.

After a scoreless first half, Cypress took just five minutes in the second half to score. Olague struck first with a goal off a pass by sophomore midfielder Amber Lopez. Just two minutes later, sophomore forward Vanesa Corona put one past the Coast keeper with an assist from Olague. Later in the half, Corona struck one from 25 yards out that bounced off the head of freshman midfielder Lindsey Ault for the goal. Freshman keeper Chelsea Broghammer played most of the game making three saves.

Cypress (17-3-2) must now travel to fourth seed Moorpark to take on the Raiders. Moorpark is coming off of a 1-0 first round win over Miramar. Cypress will take on the Raiders Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Moorpark.
