Second Round Heartbreaker Ends Charger Season

Cypress College Women's Soccer Cypress finished the season 17-3-3.
This is the third straight year Cypress has lost in PKs.

Moorpark, Calif. – Cypress traveled to Moorpark Tuesday to take on the fourth seed Moorpark Raiders. The Chargers were poised to make the upset but came up just short repeatedly losing 4-2 in penalty kicks. This is the third year in a row that Cypress has lost in the second round of playoffs due to penalty kicks.

Cypress got on the board first after a scoreless halftime with freshman forward Angie Silva scoring off an assist by freshman midfielder Hina Lilii in the 56th minute. Moorpark evened the score as time was winding down in the 78th minute with a goal tying it 1-1. The tie remained through regulation forcing overtime.

The Chargers controlled the ball through most of the two overtimes but could not find the back of the net ending the overtimes still in the 1-1 tie. The game got sent into penalty kicks where Cypress could not match Moorpark's four goals as Cypress fell short with two ending the Charger season. Freshman keeper Chelsea Broghamer played 118 minutes and Starr Gonzales played two minutes and the penalty kick session.

The Chargers finish their season 17-3-3.
