Cypress, Calif. - The Chargers (7-3-4, 5-1-4) got some payback against Santa Ana College to avenge their only Orange Empire Conference loss this year, with an impressive 4-0 victory over the Dons at home.
Cypress came into the meeting with an attack plan designed to keep pressure on SAC all-day-long. It worked to perfection, as Santa Ana was only able to get off two total shots for the entire game, with just one of those on goal.
The Chargers on the other hand, finished with 17 total shots in the contest, including eight of those taken on goal. Cypress dominated in corner kicks with a 12-0 advantage.
Samantha Rice has had the hot foot of late, and made it two-straight games with two goals. Megan Ollar had a goal and an assist, and Justine Hauck scored the Chargers fourth goal of the contest. Lisette Guevara, Kayla Arenas and Natalie Farah-Enriquez chipped in with one assist each.
Rice tapped in the game's first goal off an assist by Ollar. Three minutes later, Ollar would find the back of the net herself when Guevara found her for the score.
A second goal by Rice put Cypress on top 3-0 over the Dons thanks to an Arenas pass, and Justine Hauck's goal off of a Farah-Enriquez assist with six minutes to go in the first half gave the Chargers a commanding four-goal lead.
Defense was the theme of the second half. Neither offense was able to get much going on offense, and Cypress held on to its 4-0 lead to pick up the victory over SAC.
The Chargers will head out of town next week to play three on-the-road. The first lege of the roadtrip will be their most challenging when they face OEC leading Santiago Canyon College for the second time this year. In the first meeting, the Chargers handed the Hawks their only loss of the season in a hard fought battle at Cypress, Calif.
