Van Herk is well rooted the Cypress Charger Legacy. "As a former student/athlete at Cypress College, I am very proud to be a part of a teaching and coaching faculty where I began my academic and athletic career." Tracy was a team captain in 1993 & 1994 as she helped lead the Chargers to a State Final appearance. After finishing her collegiate soccer career at Cypress College, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Health Promotion at California State University, Fullerton. Subsequently Tracy earned a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University. She began teaching at Cypress College in 2000 and has taught numerous classes in the Physical Education Department.
Coach Van Herk began her coaching career in 1990 at John F. Kennedy High School. She lead the Fighting Irish Girls Varsity squad to several league titles and CIF appearances. She joined the Cypress College Women's Soccer coaching staff as an assistant in 1997 and took over for the late Ray Haas in 2004 leading the Chargers to their first State Championship since 1999.
