Cypress, Calif. – Cypress College head women's basketball coach Margaret Mohr has been named to the 2011 Long Beach State Hall of Fame Class for her memorable career as a 49er during the 1983-87 seasons. The induction ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Long Beach Hotel & Executive Meeting Center.
"I'm extremely honored and humbled by being named to this year's Hall of Fame Class," Mohr said. "My year's at Long Beach State were some of the best, and I was so blessed to play with, and for, so many great players and coaches."
In 1985-86, Mohr dished out 182 assists - fourth on the single season 49er record list - then helped lead Long Beach State to its first Final Four appearance in school history the next year as senior. Mohr's 448 career assist total ranks ninth all-time in the Long Beach State record books.
Mohr played a major role in helping the 49ers to a 33-3 mark and PCAA Championship in 1986-87, before ending the year as the No. 4 ranked team in the country. LBSU finished fourth in the final rankings of the national polls after going all the way to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, where Long Beach State fell to the eventual national champion Tennessee Lady Vols in the semifinal round.
Other inductees to this year's Long Beach State athletic department Hall of Fame Class include baseball alum - and current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Jared Weaver - softball player Meredith Cervenka, track and field athlete Le’Gretta Smith (Hinds), men’s volleyball player Alan Knipe, administrator Doug Robinson, men’s tennis player and coach Peter Smith, football player Mark Templeton, women’s volleyball player Cheryl Weaver and the 1989 Women’s Volleyball National Championship Team.
