Three Chargers Shine in State Championship

Mission Viejo, Calif. - Three Cypress women were invited to compete in the State Championship of swimming and diving over the weekend. After a tough preliminary round, Cypress appeared in three finals scoring 10 points to finish 30th in the meet.
Freshman Sara Kinder qualified for the 1 meter dive competition where she ended with a 129.70 score to place as the 11th best female diver in the state and scoring six points for Cypress.
Freshman Rebecca Crigger qualified for the 50 yard butterfly finals where she finished in 15th after finishing in 26.68 seconds for two Cypress points. Crigger earned her place in the finals after an 11th place finish in the preliminaries. Crigger was also invited to the State Championship meet to compete in the 100 yard freestyle. She missed the cut for the championship swim as she finished 20th. Crigger also swam in the 100 yard butterfly preliminaries finishing 17th, just missing the 16th place cut off.
Freshman Kelsey Mattes swam in the finals for the 200 yard IM finishing 15th with a time of 2:20.13 to score two points for Cypress. She earned her way to the finals with an 11th place preliminary time. She was also invited to the state championship meet to compete in the 500 yard freestyle where she placed 23rd in preliminaries.
