Cypress Cleans up in Three Set Sweep

Cypress, Calif. – After losing two straight, the Chargers decided to take their frustrations out on Santa Ana at home Friday night. The Chargers punished the Dons defeating them in three straight. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Saavedra led Cypress with twelve kills.

After back-and-forth scoring early in set one, Cypress began to pull away mid-set on the way to a 25-17 win. Cypress controlled the pace early in set two gaining the lead and keeping it to win 25-14. The same went for the third set pulling away early and staying ahead for the 25-16 set and match win. Saavedra was followed by sophomore outside hitter Marina Samoa with 11 kills and 19 digs. Freshman setter Giajaida Vargas took 41 of Cypress’s 43 assists on the evening. Sophomore middle blocker Jazmine Samoa produced three aces and seven kills. Freshman middle blocker Anna Tapu led Cypress at the net with four blocks.

Cypress (10-4, 3-2) has a week on the road coming up. Cypress will take on first place Golden West next on the road. The two face off Wednesday at Golden West at 7:00 pm.
