Cypress Repeats Four Set Win Over Fullerton

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers took on district rival Fullerton Tuesday night in a rematch of the conference opener. Cypress replicated their earlier result taking out the Hornets in four sets. Sophomore middle blocker Jazmine Samoa led Cypress at the net putting up seven blocks on the night.
Cypress jumped out to an early lead in the first set. Cypress coasted from there to a 25-15 win. Cypress struggled in the second set falling behind. The Chargers climbed from five down to take the lead 17-16 forcing a Fullerton timeout. Cypress’s tenuous lead was broken after a string of unforced errors losing the second set 25-23 as Fullerton evened the match. The Chargers pushed ahead to a third set lead and win 25-19 to take the match lead. After falling behind again in the fourth set, Cypress came back to take the lead 14-13. Cypress stayed ahead this time to take the set and match 25-19.
Sophomore outside hitter Marina Samoa led Cypress with an all-around match with 21 kills, three aces, three blocks, and 24 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Rose Greco picked up a team high 28 digs. Freshman middle blocker Kayla Pace had six blocks.
Cypress (13-4, 7-2) has a couple days off before heading to Saddleback to take on the Gauchos. Cypress defeated Saddleback 3-0 the first time around. They face off again Friday at 6:00 pm at Saddleback.
