Cypress Cleans Up Against the Gauchos

Mission Viejo, Calif. – Cypress took on the Gauchos on the road Friday facing Saddleback for the second time this season. The Chargers duplicated their first result with a three set sweep. The win and an upset loss by Irvine Valley propels the Chargers into a second place tie in conference. Cypress was led by freshman setter Giajaida Vargas with 38 assists and15 digs.

After a late start, Cypress pulled ahead in set one for the 25-22 win. They produced a 25-20 win in set two and coasted to a quick 25-10 win in set three. Sophomore outside hitter Marina Samoa led Cypress with 16 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Saavedra added 12 kills and 13 digs.

Cypress (14-4, 7-2) has the weekend off before what may be their toughest week yet. They will start the action at Orange Coast at 7:00 pm. Cypress lost to the Pirates in five sets earlier this season.
