Cypress, Calif. – Cypress headed into Friday’s match on a six match win streak with their last loss coming on October 14th to Irvine Valley. The Chargers faced Irvine Valley again Friday looking for revenge and got just that sweeping the Lasers in three to hold on to first. Freshman outside hitter Kelly Chiffer put up seven kills and four blocks.

In a pace that would set the entire match, Cypress and IVC traded points back and forth in the first set. Cypress pulled ahead towards the end winning the first set 25-21. The teams traded points in the second set again as no team showed any let-up. Cypress pushed ahead slowly towards the end for their second set win 25-20 putting IVC’s backs to the wall. The Chargers took a big early lead in the third set but got complacent as the Lasers came right back to tie it up at 11-11. Cypress picked up momentum later gaining a five point lead on the Lasers and holding a buffer for the 25-20 win and sweep.

Sophomore outside hitter Marina Samoa led Cypress with 11 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Saavedra followed with ten kills and 12 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Jazmine Samoa racked up nine blocks while freshman setter Giajaida Vargas picked up 34 assists.
