Cypress Sweeps in First Round of Playoffs

Kayla Pace Pace was 9 for 12 Tuesday night.
The Chargers will head to Santa Barbara Saturday.

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers hosted the first round of regional playoffs Tuesday taking on 1th seed Cerritos. Cypress played strong throughout the match sweeping the Falcons in three games. Freshman middle blocker Kayla Pace led Cypress going 9 for 12 with no errors.

The first set was marked by a series of long rallies. Cypress got ahead and was able to stay ahead on the way to the 25-13 win. After falling behind briefly early in the second set, Cypress surged ahead. Cerritos stayed close but Cypress pulled away mid-set winning game two 25-16. The teams traded points throughout the third set with no team gaining a clear advantage until the end when Cypress won 25-21 for the set and the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Marina Samoa led Cypress with 11 kills, three aces, and 12 digs. Freshman setter Giajaida Vargas added 37 assists.

Cypress (20-4) has the rest of the week to prepare for third seed Santa Barbara City. Santa Barbara is 21-2 coming off of a 3-1 win over Fullerton. The two will face off at Santa Barbara City at 7:00 pm on Saturday. The winner of Saturday's match will move on to the State Championship tournament.
