The Chargers Start the Season with a Split

Pasadena, Calif. – Cypress started its 2010 season Friday heading to Pasadena to take on the Lancers and Mt. Sac in a double-header. The Chargers had a rough start falling 3-0 to Pasadena before bouncing back to sweep the Mounties. Sophomore setter Giajaida Vargas paced Cypress with 52 assists on the day.

The Chargers started their season against the host Lancers. Both teams came out rusty with Cypress making more mistakes losing 25-16, 26-24, and 25-17. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Boyle led the offense with 12 kills and 11 digs. Freshman middle blocker Alexandria Poloa picked up four blocks.

Cypress recovered in time to take on Mt. Sac sweeping the Mounties and picking up its stride in the second and third set 28-26, 25-19, and 25-18. Boyle led with 11 kills, 12 digs, and two aces. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Chiffer added nine kills with no errors. Freshman middle blocker Kelsey Mersey also had nine kills and no errors. Sophomore defensive specialist Madison Moss had 18 digs while Vargas had 32 assists.

Cypress (1-1) will return home for its first home match of the year Wednesday. The Chargers will take on El Camino at 6:00 pm.
