Women's volleyball loses home opener to College of the Canyons

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress College dropped its first match of the season in a 3-1 (23-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23) loss to College of the Canyons at home on Wednesday night.
Megan Kirkpatrick led Cypress (2-1) with 16 kills, while Stephanie Casillas and Kelsey Mersey each had 11 kills apiece. Camille Valenzuela had a team-high 22 assists, followed by Shannon Tucker with 17. Holly Webster finished with 22 digs to lead the Chargers, with Kirkpatrick seven back with 15.
The Chargers fell behind by two sets early in the match, but bounced back with a 26-24 third set victory to bring the match to within one. After a slow start to begin the fourth set, Cypress had a late-rally fall short in a 23-25 decision that went to Canyons.
Cypress gets back in action this weekend when they play on Friday and Saturday in the Santa Monica Tournament.
