Los Angeles, Calif. - The 2009 Charger Water Polo team debuted Thursday traveling to LA Valley to take on the Monarchs. Cypress emerged with a first game win defeating LA Valley 12-5. The Chargers were led by nine goals from freshman 2 Meter player Nora TerBorch.

Cypress avenged their loss to the Monarchs in the season opener game in 2008. TerBorch kicked off the scoring with two in the first quarter to take the early lead. The Chargers allowed two Monarch goals in the second but scored three of their own heading into halftime with a 5-2 lead. The scoring picked up in the second half with seven more goals on the way to the seven goal win. Freshman goalie Brooke Sovick held LA Valley to five goals making 14 saves.

The Chargers start their season 1-0 and have a little under a week off before their home opener. Cypress will host Santa Monica Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
