Chargers Go 1-3 in Own Tournament

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress hosted the Cypress Invitational on Friday and Saturday hosting four teams in a round-robin tournament. The Chargers started strong with a blowout win over Miramar but lost three straight to tough teams, Orange Coast, Long Beach, and Sierra. Sophomore 2 Meter player Amanda Smith led Cypress with four goals through the tournament.
The Chargers got off to a good start with a 14-1 blowout over Miramar. Freshman 2 Meter player Nora Jean TerBorch led Cypress with four goals and three steals. Smith added three followed by two goals each from freshmen Danielle Duran and Vanessa Pachas.
Cypress had a tough afternoon taking on conference foes Orange Coast losing 12-5. TerBorch led Cypress with two goals while freshman goalie Brooke Sovick broke a school record with 20 saves.
Saturday was tough for Cypress taking on Long Beach City in the morning and losing 15-3. Freshman 2 Meter player Megan Valenzuela led Cypress with two goals. Cypress took on Sierra for the second time this season and lost 11-5 with terBorch scoring another two goals. Sovick worked overtime finishing the tournament with 49 saves.
Cypress falls to 3-4 and has a few days off before starting conference action against the Rustlers Wednesday at Golden West.
