Cypress Wins One, Loses Three in Weekend Tournament

San Diego, Calif. – The Chargers traveled South over the weekend to take on four teams in the San Diego Mesa Tournament. Cypress lost to host San Diego Mesa, Defeated Santa Monica, lost narrowly to Citrus, and then lost to Ventura. Freshman 2 meter player Nora Jean TerBorch led Cypress over the weekend finishing with 23 goals.

Cypress started the weekend against host San Diego Mesa losing 13-8. TerBorch led the team with six of the eight goals. The Chargers finished Friday against Santa Monica College defeating them for the second time this season 12-5. TerBorch scored another six goals while freshman attacker Megan Valenzuela added five.

Saturday action started with a tight match-up against Citrus. After leading by two goals in the third quarter, Cypress slipped allowing the Owls to catch up and tie it up 8-8 after regulation. Cypress lost steam in overtime with Citrus getting ahead by one and handing Cypress the 11-10 overtime loss. TerBorch scored six goals for the third straight game while freshman attacker Kristle Winter added three assists. Cypress ended the weekend against Ventura and lost 14-7. TerBorch scored five goals. Freshman keeper Brooke Sovick finished the weekend with 56 saves.

Cypress (5-10) has a couple days off before heading back into conference action heading to Orange Coast Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
