Chargers Finish with a Split at Battle of the Beach

Long Beach, Calif. – Cypress traveled to Long Beach City over the weekend for four games in the Battle of the Beach. The Chargers finished the tournament with two victories and two losses beating Rio Hondo and Southwestern and losing to Ventura and Cuesta. Freshman 2 meter player Megan Valenzuela led the Chargers with 11 goals over the weekend.
The Chargers started the action Friday taking on Ventura. After falling behind early, Cypress lost 15-5. Valenzuela picked up three goals. Cypress ended the day on a high note routing Rio Hondo 18-8. Freshman attacker Danielle Duran led Cypress with six goals.
Saturday started on a tough note for Cypress falling by just one goal to Cuesta 10-9. Valenzuela and freshman attacker Elizabeth Davidson both scored a pair of goals. Cypress made up for it in their final game with a one goal win 5-4 over Southwestern as Valenzuela scored four of Cypress’s five goals. Freshman keeper Brooke Sovick picked up 44 saves.
Cypress (8-17) has the rest of the week to prepare for the OEC Championship tournament beginning Thursday at Fullerton.
Valenzuela had 11 goals over the weekend.
