Chargers Cruise to First Conference Win

Cypress took over the game early and ran away with their first Orange Empire Conference victory of the season.

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress women's water polo bounced back from a season-opening league loss at Golden West week, with an impressive 13-6 victory over Saddleback College at home on Tuesday.
Carly Beer and Britny Javier sparked the offensive eruption of the Chargers with a three goals each. Rachel Weinstock scored the first and last goals of the game for Cypress. Four other players found the back of the cage for Cypress as well. Kelsey Kendall played solid in goal, as she finished with nine saves.
After trailing by a goal early in the first period, the Chargers tied the game on a goal by Kim Pedergon and never looked back. A pair of first period goals helped put Cypress up 5-2 heading into the second. Carly Beer picked up her second goal of the game in the second, as the Chargers went into the half leading the Gauchos by five.
In the third period, Beer picked up a hatrick with 3:32 left on the clock. Rachel Weinstock closed out the scoring for Cypress with her second goal of the contest that came late in the fourth period goal to put Cypress up 13-5. Saddleback snuck in a goal with less than :30 seconds to bring the final to 13-6.
The Chargers head to the Mt. SAC Invitational this Friday and Saturday to gear up for their next conference game against Santa Ana College at home next Wednesday, September 8, at 3 p.m. Cypress has beaten the Dons twice this year in a pair of non-conference battles that resulted in two victories, and a combined 34-12 goal margin between the two teams.
