Do you need downtime after socializing? If you tend to say yes, your general personality probably gravitates more toward Introversion, in company with anywhere between 30-50% of people worldwide.
First defined as a core psychological type by Carl Jung in 1921, introverts feel energized when they spend time alone. Research suggests that extroverts may have a slightly different mix of brain chemistry than introverts, and a distinct neural pathway for processing stimuli. While most people fall somewhere in the middle of the extroversion-introversion spectrum, you probably have some inclination as to where you lie.
With introverts in mind, we’ve created a short list of the 15 fastest growing occupations based on the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics that might match your natural energy style. In addition to having above-average projected growth (+15%) through 2022, the careers listed have been filtered to include only those with a median annual salary of $50K and above (we all know California is an expensive place to live). Some of these you’ll find in the 15 best jobs for extroverts list as well since they also allow for plenty time to interact with people and groups.

1. Orthotist and Prosthetist
Employment Growth: 36%
Average Annual Salary: $62,970 in 2013.
What they do: Orthotists and prosthetists, commonly called O & P professionals, design and fit patients for medical supportive devices including artificial limbs. They must earn a master’s degree and complete a one year residency program before they can practice. A good start at Cypress is in STEM studies leading to transfer. 2. Audiologist
Employment Growth: 34%
Average Annual Salary: $71,170 in 2012
What they do: Audiologists diagnose hearing problems and balance disorders. They then treat these issues after determining their causes and their impact on the patients. To become an audiologist, one must earn a Doctor of Audiology degree (AuD). A good start at Cypress is in STEM studies leading to transfer. 3. Anesthesiologist
Employment Growth: 20%
Average Annual Salary: $232,830 in 2012
What they do: Anesthesiologists are physicians who specialize in providing pain relief for patients, and they usually work in hospital or surgical outpatient settings. 4. Architect
Employment Growth: 17%
Average Annual Salary: $94,000 in 2013.
What they do: An architect is a person who plans, designs, and oversees the construction of buildings. The Mathematics and Physics Departments at Cypress can be a great help for you getting started in transfer studies for this field.

Average Annual Salary: $88,590 in 2013.
What they do: Information security analysts help companies and organizations protect their computer networks from intrusions. They investigate violations if they occur. The Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Departments at Cypress can be a great help for you getting started in transfer studies for Computer Science or Programming. The college has a very supportive (STEM)2 Program available to students in these majors.
6. Biomedical Engineer
Employment Growth: 27%
Average Annual Salary: $88,670 in 2013.
What they do: Biomedical engineers first analyze and then solve problems having to do with biology and medicine. This includes designing, developing and evaluating devices such as artificial organs, prostheses and instruments. They also create procedures, such as medical information systems and health management and care delivery systems. A good start at Cypress is in STEM studies leading to transfer. The college has a very supportive (STEM)2 Program available to students in these majors.
7. Market Research Analyst
Employment Growth: 32%
Average Annual Salary: $60,800 in 2013.
What they do: Market research analysts conduct research and analyze data in order to help companies determine what products and services to sell, how much to charge for them and where and how to sell them. While some professionals in this field have degrees in market research, many come from a diversity of academic backgrounds. Cypress has many strong programs that can help get you started in this field, including Associate Degrees for Transfer in Business Administration, Communication Studies, Mathematics, Psychology, and Sociology.
8. Geographer
Employment Growth: 29%
Average Annual Salary: $74,750 in 2013.
What they do: Geographers do research about the physical characteristics, as well as the inhabitants, of a particular region of the earth. They work for governments and businesses who use this information to plan for the building of highways and homes, respond to disasters and implement marketing strategies. Cypress has an excellent Geography Department that can get you started in this field, including an AA-T in Geography.
9. Operations Research Analyst
Employment Growth: 27%
Average Annual Salary: $74,630 in 2013.
What they do: After identifying problems businesses are having, operations research analysts use advanced mathematical and analytical methods to solve them. They help set prices, schedule production and allocate resources. Analysts typically have degrees in technical or quantitative fields, such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics. A good start at Cypress is in STEM studies leading to transfer. The college has a very supportive (STEM)2 Program available to students in these majors.
10. Actuaries
Employment Growth: 26%
Average Annual Salary: $94,340 in 2013.
What they do: Actuaries, after determining the risk of events occurring, help their employers minimize their associated costs. They use statistical analysis, as well as modeling and database software. Actuaries need a bachelor’s degree, typically in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or other analytical fields. A good start at Cypress is in STEM studies leading to transfer, and coursework from the Business and Computer Information Systems Division and Economics Department may be needed as well.
11. Computer and Information Systems Manager
Employment Growth: 15%
Average Annual Salary: $132,570
What they do: These workers help determine the information technology goals of an organization and are responsible for implementing the appropriate computer systems to meet those goals. The Science, Engineering, and Math or Business and Computer Information Systems divisions have strong programs to you getting started in transfer studies for Computer Science or Information Systems.

12. Ultrasound Technician
Employment Growth: 44%
Average Annual Salary: $65,210 in 2011.
What they do: Ultrasound technicians help diagnose patients’ illnesses by using special equipment that emits sound waves. The great Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Cypress can launch you into this career.
13. Cardiovascular Technologist
Employment Growth: 29%
Average Annual Salary: $51,020 in 2011.
What they do: Cardiovascular technologists use invasive and non-invasive procedures to help doctors diagnose and treat coronary and vascular problems. While Cypress does not have a program in this field, coursework in in STEM studies might help meet prerequisite requirements for those at other institutions.
14. Respiratory Therapists
Employment Growth: 28%
Average Annual Salary: $55,250 in 2013.
What they do: Respiratory therapists, in consultation with doctors, develop treatment plans for patients who have breathing or cardiopulmonary problems. While Cypress does not have a program in this field, coursework in in STEM studies might help meet prerequisite requirements for those at other institutions.
15. Radiologic Technicians
Employment Growth: 28%
Average Annual Salary: $55,120 in 2011.
What they do: Radiologic technicians use special imaging equipment, such as x-rays, CT scans, MRIs and mammograms, to diagnose injuries and diseases. Cypress has a strong Radiologic Technology Program that can get you into this field.
On a side note, it’s important to mention that personality type is not necessarily a fixed characteristic. We all grow and change throughout life so that an inherent quality can be modified with effort (acquired quality). Also, most of us are natural situational ambiverts, depending on any one situation we can adapt our personality characteristics.
