Getting Started

Step 1: Teacher Preparation Application

Please fill out a Teacher Preparation Application. Applications are located in the Social Sciences Division Office outside of room H-238. You may return it to a staff member in the Social Science Division Office. You are strongly encouraged to enroll in the COUN 110 class your first semester.

Step 2: Assessment

Take the English/Math assessment test to determine your skill level. The Assessment Office is located in the Student Center, 2nd Floor and their number is (714) 484-7223. For hours of operation and test times, you can check the Assessment Center website.

Step 3: Counselor

After you receive your assessment results, see the Teacher Preparation Counselor for academic advising and class selection. Make a counseling appointment for the Fall or Spring semester at (714) 484-7178, or stop by the 2nd Floor of the Student Center.

If you have any questions about the CBEST Exam or the CSET Exam, please speak with a counselor. Also, if you have a criminal record of any kind, please contact the dean of Social Sciences to make sure you will be able to qualify for a teaching credential.

If you are a new student to Cypress College, you need to complete orientation first. It is your first counseling appointment.

Step 4: Educational Ambassadors Program

You are encouraged to join the Educational Ambassadors Program on campus for aspiring teachers. The Educational Ambassadors are a student-based, on-campus group focused on bringing future teachers together while helping them along their path to become great educators. The Ambassadors strive to learn more about the teaching profession by attending conferences, participating in educational workshops, and creating unique classroom events in the local elementary, middle, and high schools around Cypress College. For additional information on the Educational Ambassadors Program please contact Bryan Seiling, faculty advisor, at (714) 484-8598.

For more information, you may check the Teacher Preparation website periodically. We are looking forward to serving your needs as you become a member of the Teacher Preparation Program at Cypress College.
