DESCRIPTION:This year’s Black History Celebration will focus on STEM\, Nursing\, Mortuary Science\, and select CTE programs. We are excited to showcase guest speakers who are Black Professionals in these field. These professionals will share their educational and career experiences to encourage and inspire. \n“We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and will go away\, but there will always be science\, engineering\, and technology. And there will always\, always be mathematics.” — Katherine Johnson\, NASA Research\, Mathematician \n2015 Blacks comprised approximately 5% of science and engineering occupations and approximately 8% of computer system occupations in the United States. \nCelebrate with us February 6\, 9\, 21\, & 22!\nEvent 1\nOpening Day Event\nFebruary 6\n10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.\nThis is a virtual event featuring keynote speaker Kenneth Sparks. This event will highlight nursing\, computer science\, and mortuary science majors. \nEvent 2\nBlacks in STEM\nFebruary 9\n3:30–5:30 p.m.\nJoin us in the SEM IDC (immersive digital classroom) for an exciting forum featuring a panel of professional chemists and engineers. \nEvent 3\nDay of Expression\nFebruary 21\n12–3 p.m.\nThe celebration will officially kick off on Mardi Gras\, followed by the Day of Expression Event. Artists\, writers\, poets\, musicians\, drummers\, and singer-songwriters. The Black Panther’s attire and makeup will be the focus of a unique fashion show.
