SUMMARY:Strategic Conversation #20: Student Success at its Core
DESCRIPTION:Strategic Conversations are planned\, but informal\, discussions conducted in a democratic and conversational style\, and focused on policy issues. The goal of this effort is to help our Board of Trustees thoughtfully examine what drives its policy decisions\, by involving everyone who wishes to express a point of view\, and gathering information in a less structured atmosphere than the traditional Board meeting. \nThe process provides opportunities for a positive exchange of ideas and concerns\, as well as improved decision-making among all constituencies. Anyone from the District\, and the community at large\, may participate in the Strategic Conversations\, which are aimed at maximizing dialogue among all who have an interest in the District\, establishing an environment conducive to consensus building\, and developing a spirit of teamwork. \nIt is important to note that Strategic Conversations are not designed to result in formal decision\, rather\, to develop ideas and information that may assist decision making in the future. In addition\, topics will be confined to policy\, rather than operational matters. DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Amber Rose González\, Ph.D.\nWhen: April 26\, 2019\, 8:30–11:30 a.m.\nWhere: Fullerton College\, Humanities\, 515 \nDescription: This workshop will provide participants with an analytical toolkit based in critical ethnic\, gender\, and queer studies. We will apply frameworks from these fields in order to better understand issues LGBTQ+ students\, staff and faculty face in higher education generally and at NOCCCD campuses specifically. This workshop will be hands-on and discussion based and will ask participants to be open\, honest\, and self-reflective in order to contribute to an engaging and liberatory learning environment. \nPresenter Bio: Amber Rose González is an Associate Professor and the Coordinator of Ethnic Studies Department at Fullerton College.
