SUMMARY:Opioid Overdose Prevention & Narcan Training
DESCRIPTION:The Student Health & Wellness Center is excited to bring free Naloxone trainings presented by the OC Health Care Agency to our campus this spring. \nTrainings will be held in CCCPLX-414 on the following dates and times: \n\nTuesday\, 1/27\, 3-4 p.m.\nWednesday\, 3/25\, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.\nMonday\, 5/4\, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.\n\nOpioid Overdose Prevention & Narcan Training\nDid you know the leading cause of unintentional injury death in the U.S. is drug overdose—surpassing motor vehicle crashes? Opioids\, including prescription painkillers and heroin\, account for most of these deaths (CDC\, 2024). Today\, the risk is even higher as powerful opioids like fentanyl are increasingly found in other substances—sometimes without people realizing it.\nNarcan (naloxone) is a life-saving medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose. \nJoin us for this important training where you will: \n\nLearn to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose\nPractice how to properly administer Narcan\nUnderstand the opioid crisis at both national and local levels\nGet updates on emerging trends—new drugs\, law changes\, and the evolving illicit drug supply\n\nOverdose deaths are preventable. Together\, we can save lives. \nRSVP with Marla McBride at mmcbride@cypresscollege.edu. \nAll participants will receive free Narcan and be entered into a raffle to win a First Aid Kit from the Student Health and Wellness Center. A certificate of completion from the OC Health Care Agency will be sent out after the training.

SUMMARY:Send Silence Packing
DESCRIPTION:Cypress College is proud to be partnering with Active Minds\, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to change the culture around mental health\, to bring Send Silence Packing to Cypress College. Send Silence Packing is an exhibit that inspires action around suicide by sending the message that you are not alone\, help is available\, and we each play a critical role in changing the culture around mental health. \nWe invite you to explore the backpack display on Wednesday\, April 23\, 2025\, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, in Gateway Plaza and to visit Behind the Backpacks\, an interactive virtual experience that shares powerful audio stories and engaging\, action-oriented ideas for how to change the culture around mental health in your community. \nPlease note the display explores themes of mental health and suicide and includes personal stories of people who have been lost to suicide. We will have mental health professionals available to speak to onsite in the event that the experience evokes distress. If you would like to avoid the display\, please follow the “Alternative Route” signs on the outer edge of the display. \nOur school has chosen to bring this display because student mental health and wellness continues to be a priority for the Student Health and Wellness Center\, Active Minds Student Chapter and Cypress College as a community. \nIf you have any questions or concerns\, contact Anna Spencer-Lonetti at aspencer-lonetti@cypresscollege.edu  or the Active Minds Send Silence Packing team at sendsilencepacking@activeminds.org. \nIf you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health or suicidal ideation\, be sure to contact: \n\nStudent Health and Wellness Center (714) 484-7361 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) OR Campus Safety (714) 484-7387 (on-campus after 5 p.m.)\n988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: 988 OR 800-273-8255\nCrisis Text Line: text “BRAVE” to 741-741\n2-1-1: call or text\n\nHelp and hope are available.
