SUMMARY:California Bike License Plate Contest Deadline
DESCRIPTION:California Bicycle Theme License Plate \nGraphic Design Contest Rules  \nWIN $500.00 \nPurpose of the Contest  \nThe California Department of Public Health (CDPH)\, in conjunction with the California Bicycle Coalition (CBC)\, Cycle California Magazine (CCM) and other partners are conducting a contest for a graphic image that will go onto the California special interest “Bicycle Theme” license plate. The license plate will be available for cars\, trucks\, trailers and motorcycles. \nThe Graphic Image Theme \nThe theme for the license plate is\, “Bike for a Healthy California”.  The image should represent the theme of biking in California and depict biking as a healthy and fun activity. The image should be appealing to the public and represent all cyclists. \nProceeds from the License Plate \nFunds generated from the sales of the license plates will go toward a grant program overseen by CDPH\, Nutrition Education Obesity Prevention Branch (NEOPB). Grants will be awarded to\, non-profit agencies\, County Health Departments\, community based and similar organizations in California. The focus areas of grants will include promoting biking as a way to increase physical activity to prevent chronic disease\, advocating for pedestrian and biking friendly street design\, education of cyclists and drivers of automobiles\, safe routs to school programs and efforts to collaborate with law enforcement. \nContest Rules and Criteria \n\nNo Entry fee is required to participate or win\nThe contest is void where prohibited by law\, regulation statute or other appropriate legal authority\nThe contest is open to artists of any age\nContestants under the age of 18 must have parent or guardian consent.\nEach artist may submit up to three images.\nThe person entering the artwork is considered the contestant and the only person eligible to win the prize.\nEmployees of NEOPB\, the CBC\, CCM and judging committee may submit designs but are not eligible to win prizes.\nOriginal artwork is encouraged but not required.\nAny artwork that depicts copyrighted images must be accompanied by proof of permission from the copyright holder and allow CDPH NEOPB to reproduce the image without compensation obligations.\nAny artwork that infringes on another’s copyright will be disqualified. The submitting artist is solely responsible for any infringement on copyrighted materials.\nArt that has been entered in previous contests is allowed.\nBy entering this competition\, the artist is granting CDPH NEOPB a non-exclusive license to reproduce images of the entrant’s artwork on the state license plate\, website\, newsletters and other items that can be used to generate funds to support the California Bicycling License Plate program and in the marketing of the art competition to the public. Artwork will not be used for any other purpose than that which is stated here. The winning entry will be displayed on the CDPH\, CBC\, CCM and other License Plate program supporters’ websites.\nImages that are controversial\, sensationalistic or gruesome in nature will be rejected.\nPreliminary entries will not be returned.\nEntries must meet criteria to be eligible.\n\nFile size and Format: for judging\, images must be a minimum of 72 dpi.  Acceptable file formats are jpg\, gif\, png and pdf or similar format. Submitted images may be any size. Final images must fit into a 3-inch by 2-inch space without distortion. \nSubmitting artwork: Submitted artwork to calbike.org/bikeplateimagecontest .  Entries accepted up to midnight April 29\, 2018. \nFinal Artwork: The final draft of the image selected to be on the license plate must be in a vector graphic format.  Vector design software includes Adobe Illustrator\, Sketch\, Corol DRAW and AFFINITY.  For an explanation of vector graphic design click here.  If the submitter is unable to make the image in Vector CDPH will attempt that process for the submitter. \nJudging and Criteria \nA panel of judges selected by and/or recommended to NEOPB will select five final images for public voting. \nAll images are judged on the following criteria: \n\nAppeal:\n\nIs the image appealing at first glance?\nIs it appealing to cyclist and non-cyclists?\nWill it compel people to buy the plate?\n\n\nDoes it stand alone as a work of art?\nInterpretation of the theme:\n\nDoes the image represent or express intent and or meaning of the theme?\nDoes it portray biking as a healthy\, fun and safe pastime?\n\n\nOriginality: Is the design something that is original to the viewer?\n\nThe public\, via voting process\, will select the final graphic image.  \nFinal Judging/Selection \nBikers\, cyclists\, cycling advocates\, and stakeholders will be directed to the CCM website www.cyclecalifornia.com to vote for their favorite image.  Voters will be asked to rank the final images 1-5 in order in which they are most likely to purchase the license plate with the image. Only votes from California will be accepted.  The judging panel will review the votes and select the final image. \nWinning Prizes  \nThe winner will receive a $500 gift card. The winner will have the honor of claiming the notoriety of the winning design; receive a plaque/certificate acknowledging their contribution\, an autographed copy of “Draft Animals” by Phil Gaimon and a feature in Cycle California Magazine.  All finalists will be mentioned on the CBC and CDPH websites.  First runner up will receive a Fitbit (valued at $129.00).  Second runner up will receive a Nutri-bullet blender (valued at $70.00). \nTo Enter  \n\nHave a completed image ready to submit\nFill out an online entry form for each entry (up to three). DESCRIPTION:The MAD Film Festival takes place in CCCPLX-216 at 6 p.m. Click here to download the guidelines and entry form. \nGuidelines\nEligibility Requirements\n\nFilm Festival entrants must be currently enrolled in a college or high school.\n*Films must have been completed within the twelve months prior to May 11\, 2018.\nFilms may have been produced with video or film processes.\nFilms must have been made by student crews\, writers\, directors\, (no professionals).\n\nContent Guidelines\n\nFilms must be original works and not derivative or parodies of other films.\nNarrative films should have a beginning\, middle\, and end with a conflict and resolution.\nMusic videos should be interpretive & creative\, and not simply bands playing but may include\nsome footage of the band playing as part of the complete film.\nAbstract or experimental art films should have an identifiable theme.\nNo nudity will be allowed as this is a student film festival and family event.\nNo explicit sex acts.\nAvoid profanity *(If profanity is used in dialog\, it must be bleeped by filmmaker).\nAll city\, state\, and national laws must be followed in the production of your film.\nViolence or “Jackass” style stunts presented for shock value alone will not be accepted.\nAll action must have a context within the story.\nMusic used in the film must be original and not commercial music lifted from CDs\, iTunes\,\ninternet downloading sites\, or from other movies or television shows.\nIf music used in the film was created by the filmmaker\, a friend or relative of the filmmaker\, a\ncredit must be given at end of film and a music release must be signed and submitted with the\nfilm for screening purposes.\nPhotographs or images of any kind that appear in the film must be created by the filmmaker or\nmust have a signed image/artwork release submitted with the film.\nMusic not created by the filmmaker must be royalty-free music acquired at a source like\nhttp://www.freeplaymusic.com. Music ripped from CDs or iTunes are not allowed.\n\nTechnical Requirements\n\nFilm length 30 seconds and not to exceed 10 minutes. 5 minutes is an ideal runtime for films.\nFilms made in a language other than English must contain English subtitles.\nFilms must have a beginning title and ending credits (Reference your school in credits).\nFilm submissions must be sent on a USB thumb drive. These will not be returned.\nSubmissions must list\, the film’s title\, director and runtime\, email\, and phone number.\nFilms must be submitted in Quicktime (.mov) or (.mp4) file format with stereo audio.\nFilms and USB drives will not be returned.
