Get Help Paying for College: Free FAFSA & Dream Act Workshops in February

Could you use help paying for college? Most students do.

Let us help you get the funding you need. Throughout the month of February, the Cypress College Office of Financial Aid is hosting four free FAFSA / Dream Act Workshops in the Library Learning Resource Center (Rm. 130, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. | February 16, 18, 22, and 24).

Nearly two-thirds of Cypress College students qualify for some form of financial aid: fee waivers (that cover all tuition expenses), grants and scholarships (that don’t have to be paid back), work study programs (to exchange work for money), and low-interest loans (that do have to paid back). Many students qualify for a Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver or other assistance specifically for California community colleges.

Submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Dream Act Application is the most important thing you can do to get financial assistance to pay for college. The U.S. Department of Education uses the FAFSA to determine students’ eligibility for federal student aid. Each year, the federal government awards approximately $150 billion in the form of grants, work-study funds, and low-interest loans to help millions of students pay for college. In addition, the State of California uses the Dream Act Application to determine students’ eligibility for the BOG fee waiver and competitive Cal Grant.

We highly encourage you to take advantage of these special one-on-one workshop sessions to get your application in on-time and filled out correctly. 2016-17 FAFSA and CA Dream Act Applications are DUE March 2, 2016.
