Students with Dependents
Cypress College welcomes and supports students with dependents. We recognize that pursuing higher education while raising a family can involve additional expenses and challenges. Student parents often face greater food, housing, childcare, and transportation costs than students without dependents. Our goal is to connect student parents with resources and support services that help them achieve their educational goals.
Cost of Attendance (COA) Adjustments and Dependent Care Allowance
Cypress College provides information about Cost of Attendance (COA) adjustments and the dependent care allowance available to student parents.
The dependent care allowance is not direct financial aid; rather, it is a component of the COA that may be adjusted based on the number and age of a student’s dependents. Federal regulations also permit students to request adjustments to their COA to reflect actual educational expenses when supported by adequate documentation.
Eligibility for COA adjustments and confirmation of expenses are determined by the Financial Aid Office. While a COA adjustment may increase financial need, it does not guarantee additional financial aid. Final award amounts depend on a student’s Cost of Attendance, financial need, available funding, and overall aid eligibility.
For additional information regarding COA appeals, eligibility requirements, and supporting documentation, please visit the Financial Aid Policies, Appeals, and Important Information page.
